Plate Cooler

A cooling device where the heat generated by the milk is transferred to a cooling medium, usually cold water. Warm milk passes through altarnate stainless steel plates in one direction while chilled or well water passes in the opposite direction with the heat transferring from the milk to the cold water. The plate cooler has two applications: either pre-cooling; or total instant cooling. Pre-cooling partially reduces the milk temperature. The milk is then transported to a bulk tank to be further cooled to 40 degrees or less. Total instant cooling reduces the milk temperature to 33-35 degrees. The milk is then transported directly to a tanker trailer with no further cooling necessary.
